As a huge fan of the BBC’s Doctor Who, I know first hand that it is not always easy to explain the show to someone who has never seen it. This counts double when trying to explain it to someone who has only ever experienced American television. Since, in my opinion, American science fiction has been on the decline recently, I have been trying to encourage some of my fellow geeks to get into the show. The clever team at College Humor released a video of a Doctor Who RPG that, in my opinion, does a pretty good job of explaining the core elements of the last two seasons of Doctor Who in the most amusing way possible.
The “RPG” is a combination of old school Final Fantasy with a little bit of Pokemon thrown in for the action sequences. The end result is three minutes of 8-bit humor that travels through the Doctor Who storyline since Matt Smith took the stage as the 11th Doctor.
Starting from the moment David Tennant regenerated, you are rushed through all of the important plot points. Losing Rory, the Angels, the Pandorica, and absolute craziness that is Professor River Song. The video happens so fast that, while incredibly spoilerific, should you expose someone to the video before they have seen the show you won’t be ruining anything for anyone.
Take a look at the video below, and be sure to drop a thank you to the guys at College Humor for giving the Whovians of the world something to laugh at while we wait for Season 7 to start up this fall.
As noted above, this probably won’t ruin anything for people who haven’t seen the show yet, but it does contain spoilers!
