Witcher 2′s Dark Outfits are probably the most fucking bad-ass incentive to play the game on the hardest-of-hard difficulty levels. You will find that Geralt is easier to kill than using a fireaxe on a barrel-ful of helpless kittens, even with the equipment of the Dark Outfits. It makes the game frustrating or thrilling (you choose).
The Blasphemer
The youngest of the brothers foreswore his oath to Freya to destroy the dragon who took her treasure, and was thus cursed for his abandonment of his duties. When the Blasphemer misplaced his gloves one day, the curse took hold and took his life.

- 20 – Studded Leather
- 16 – Hardened Leather
- 20 – Robust Cloth
- 8 – Nekker Claws
- 9 – Nekker Teeth
- 6 – Endrega Venom (limited component)
- 5 – Endrega Hide (limited component)
- 4 – Twine
- 12 – Silver
- 16 – Iron Ore
- 5 – Timber
- 5 – Diamond Dust
- 4 – Amethyst Dust
- 2 – Yellow Meteorite Ore (limited component)
Apart from the limited components listed, you should have plenty of monsters in the Forest Near Flotsam and the cave near the coast to provide you with body parts to sell to traders (for money). I personally recommend completing the Nekker Contract but hold off on completing the Endrega Contract until you have enough spider body parts to fulfill your crafting requirement.
The reason for this approach is that there are infinite Nekkers in the cave by the sea (the cave you visit during the mission Malena), and you can easily harvest their body parts for orens. Note that if you do complete the Endrega Contract, you will find Endrega spawning only one at a time near their egg nests (you will need to meditate and pass one game-day per spawn).
As for Yellow Meteorite Ore, chances you will retrieve some while searching the boxes around Flotsam; when in doubt, use Geralt’s wolf medallion to see if there are searchable item containers. Some spots you might miss: the boxes in Loredo’s Garden (use the mission Fight Club to search the grounds without being harassed by enemy patrols; just don’t bother going to the fighting pit), the boxes at the docks near the Prison Barge, the toll-keeper’s house, and almost every house in Flotsam and Lobinden.
Before making your choice to meet Iorveth at the Elven Bath Ruins, consider buying some more materials for the next outfit — you can even buy the crafting diagrams of Robust Cloth, Hardened Leather, Studded Leather, and Oil (the four which are most useful, although it’s probably cheaper to buy the oil and use Necrophage Skin for other things).
Just watch who you buy the diagrams from – the mysterious merchant (the silent one) near the docks sells the diagrams at 5x their normal price; he is however, consistent. You can find this merchant re-appearing (and selling the same diagrams, but better weapons and armor) in later chapters. To buy the Robust Cloth, Hardened and Studded Leather, and Oil diagrams for a mere 251 Orens apiece, speak to the trader who will dice with you in Flotsam’s town square. That amount is much more favorable this early in the game.
The Oathbreaker
The eldest of three brothers who broke his promise to Freya to slay the dragon who stole her treasure. He was invulnerable ’til the day he lost one of his boots and was, in turn, slain by his brother.

- 10 – Twine

- 16 – Iron Ore
- 5 – Timber
- 1 – Draugir Armor Fragment (rare component)
- 2 – Blue Meteorite Ore (limited component)
The Studded Leather, Hardened Leather, and Robust Cloth will take up most of your time. The one piece that is rather rare would be the Draugir Armor Fragment, which (if playing as Roche), may be taken from one of the two Draugir during the first mission of Chapter 2.
For Iorveth, I’ve not a clue, but I will be playing that side of the story shortly.
The Essence of Death is best taken from Wraiths; you can find some in the catacombs where the Dun Banner was laid to rest, or from the side mission in Chapter 1, In the Claws of Madness. Blue Meteorite Ore is pretty common (unless you were selling it) from looting various boxes. It’s not “common” common, but occus just enough that you can spare two pieces without incurring a shortage.
A quick warning on Necrophage Skin (earned from slaying Rotfiends); if you are siding with Vernon Roche (Iorveth’s path cannot access the Kaedwen side of the battlefield), you may want to kill a few Rotfiends to stock up on a score (20) or so have the luxury of creating the Magic Armor Wrap (and make three of them later in Loc-Muinne). On Dark difficulty, if you bump up the Sign Damage and Intensity, you can use the Aard and Quen signs to give you the advantage you need to survive some fights. If I find a good source of Rotfiends for Iorveth’s side, I’ll re-update this post.
The Kinslayer
The second of three brothers who promised Freya to slay the dragon who stole her treasure. He was the one who slew the beast, but such a victory corrupted his mind, and he sought to take what was rightfully another’s. By slaying his own brother, he cursed himself. The Kinslayer’s end came when a sorcerer tricked him into parting with one of his swords. With that simple act, he lost his invulnerability to the curse, and with it, his life.

- 14 – Silver
- 18 – Iron Ore
- 4 – Timber
- 2 – Blue Meteorite Ore (limited component)
The Hardened Leather and Robust Cloth will take up most of your time; there’s less Studded Leather needed this time. The few components that are super-rare would be the Elemental Stones (dropped by Golems and Gargoyles, or found), Essence of Death (from Wraiths in the catacombs or from the sanitarium in Chapter 1), Troll Tongue (taken from killing the troll south of the Kaedweni Camp brothel in Chapter 2 … or you can purchase it from traders in Loc Muinne), and Blue Meteorite Ore (plentiful unless you were selling it).
By far the most difficult components to get your hands on would be the Gargoyle Dust and Dragon’s Scale. It’s suggested that you leave one of the three warded areas in the Gargoyle Contract so you have a ready supply of gargoyles. If you closed the contract by completing the mission, it’s probably impossible for you to acquire the 9 units of Gargoyle Dust required for the outfit.
For the Dragon’s Scale, you can pick one up as soon as you reach the Loc Muinne inn (it’s marked on your map). From the entrance to the inn, turn left 90° so the door is on Geralt’s left. Walk straight ahead towards the anti-magic agitator (an old-style crier) and open the red door next to him. This is Phillipa’s residence in Loc Muinne, and her bedroom has a chest with a Dragon’s Scale.
From there on, it’s probably easiest to head to the forest path east of Loc Muinne (the place with the mission Crown Witness and Lilies and Vipers) and farm (or “MOHU“) the Nekkers in the cave and the Endrega in the forest for body parts you can sell. Aside from a Witcher, a taxidermist doubling as an alchemist (or potioner) will probably find good work on this world.
